Analog challenge: high power/high speed amplifier for physics experiment

1219 1 Mar 18.2020, 18:03:33
Hello everybody, I am tasked with designing an amplifier for physics experiment and I would be very glad to hear all opinions and receive help Summarized the device should fit in the following. Powered by 30-100V(+- so 60-200V) Output current up to 4-5A Output voltage swing->Not of high importance, anything reasonable will suffice Gain-everything above 20dB(voltage gain) is acceptable. Now the hard part-it should do all that @0Hz-1MHz output frequency(pure sine). Some gain droop is acceptable. Harmonic distortion should be low(say below a few %) Operating into an coil placed on a widely varying magnetic materials so the load impedance is inductive...ish.(Load isolation resistor?) The expected load inductance range is ~20-200uH All requirements aren't set in stone so feel free to deviate a little. What have I thought about for the moment: GaN based class D amplifier switching at ~2.5-3MHz and a very good output filter-Hard to implement(I have zero experience with GaN) a...

Can you give some advise for my buck regular circuit?

1190 1 Mar 16.2020, 18:06:29
I'm designing some hardware using EasyEDA. I'm planning to do the PCB and SMD assembly. I just got my first print last week, and i'm very happy with the price and quality. My current design features a Arduino mega on a PCB with a 3" OLED, some LED,s chips, and expansion ports. I need to power the circuit with 11~15V from a car battery, and am looking to use a more efficient regulator than the AMS1117 on the Arduino. So i want to convert 11 to 16V to 5V, and i'm targeting a current usage between 200mA and 1A (the 1A is for future expansions)The manufacturer SMT service has a very limited list of basic components, and i want to prevent extra charges from their extended library. I made quick evaluation of the available types below:So i wanted to go with the last one. I played around with their great design tool, but i can really get the efficiency above 88%. This means i hit the maximum dissipation of the SOT-23-6 package before i get to 1A. This may be acceptable, but i rather go up...

Rip apart my “bulletproof”breadboard/Arduino power supply design

1196 1 Mar 13.2020, 23:11:12
Made an over-engineered power supply for my kids after watching them fumble around with a breadboard and frying an Arduino. Okay it's for me too. It uses a TPS259621 efuse to shut off the power when a power rail is shorted, has an over-voltage ( by plugging power supplies into each other), or over-current. It can also be configured to shut down all the power rails at once if any of these conditions happens on any rail. The TPS continually checks if the condition clears and then powers everything up when it's okay. If any of the power regulators (MIC29302) goes into shutdown all of them shut off. Each TPS has inrush current management. It's powered from a notebook power supply. The LED on the affected rail goes out if there's a problem. The current consumption on each rail can be monitored via a TPS pin broken out to the side of the PCB -- It was meant to vary the brightness of an LED depending on how much current is being drawn, but ran out of room and time. Maybe later.See anything th...

How about my newly improved PCB viewer/ Gerber Viewer

Adding IPC356 bare board flying probe test file, enables design browsing and components display. At the moment, there is no component library. Instead I am guessing using geometry of pads and components designator names from IPC356 testpoints. There is also a cross-check interface to OrCad schematic.

The question about PCB Fabrication

958 1 Feb 23.2020, 00:10:47
I've now designed my very first PC board, and am in the process of reviewing it. One thing that occurred to me is that I created a couple of custom pads and wasn't paying attention to whether the hole sizes were standard drill sizes. It's no problem to go back and change them, but my question, is: Is there a set of standard drill sizes that should be used?V-score is so the boards can snap apart?

Ground plane query for dual layer PCB

977 1 Feb 21.2020, 20:26:04
Hi all I am designing a wristwatch PCB in which there will be two seperate parts. The analog part consists of a Li-ion battery charger IIC,one Fuel gauge IC & some supporting discrete components(Diode,Mosfet,Resistor,Cpacitor etc). The digital part consists of a MCU,RTC,Buzzer,Display & some supporting discrete components.By far,i've placed all the analog parts in the bottom player. The top layer is containing all the digital parts except the RTC chip due to lack of space in the top layer. I will apply ground plane in the bottom layer. Now,I have some queries : 1) Should I apply ground plane for the top layer also?If so,then should I use single/multiple via to connect it to bottom layer as I think If i use single via, then there would be voltage drop... 2) If i don't apply ground plane for the top layer, can I connect every individual grounds of digital part using vias to the bottom layer ground plane??Please suggest! My ongoing PCB design is as follows:

How to check my 2.54mm connectors on circuit board fit in breadboard

956 1 Feb 19.2020, 17:59:21
Hello ,I want to make an breakout board that fits in an breadboard like this :But they are expensive, I am using Altium 10 but how do i make sure i can just plug it in the breadboard and all pins are aligned correctly ? Thanks

The question about ultrasonic bath, full PCB immersion and flux removal?

847 1 Feb 14.2020, 21:11:03
Does it damage a mcu or circuit if its immersed in iso prop in a ultrasonic bath and will this remove all the solder flux residue or is there still a manual task required? Cheers.

Why does divide digital and analog modules?

903 1 Feb 13.2020, 18:07:43
When a PCB board features multiple digital/analog modules, the ordinary solution is to divide digital/analog modules. Why?
