Some confusion about THT and SMD Components in PCB fabrication

Is it possible to both have THT and SMD components in one PCB design? if it is possible, is there any side effects? I'm trying to build a modified FM transmitter and I'm looking at some THT and SMD components to use in my design.

Yes, this is done all the time. Two soldering processes (infrared/vapour phase oven for SMD & wave/manual soldering for through hole) are required.
Just try & get all the components (SMD & through hole) on the same side of the PCB as this saves quite a bit in production costs.
